Basic Styles, Part I: Natural

Hello beautiful woman,

Welcome to doitwithyourstyle. If you haven’t had the opportunity yet to read my 5-part series about the Greek goddesses and their styles in contemporary times, please check it out before we go on about the “realms of style”.

Having your own style demands personality, taking a stand. You don’t need to be super elegant or always combine the right colors and pieces of clothing, although it is highly advised to your advantage. Think of Lady Gaga, Dita Van Teese, women politicians, and other celebrities. Their styles are not always admired or envied, but they do tell a lot about their life statements.

Today is the beginning of my 5-part series of Basic Style Personalities*. I’m going to introduce you to different styles so they may inspire you to develop a style just for yourself. Let’s start with:

*Information from the Style Coaching Institute England.

Style Personality #1: Natural

Who's Natural?

Cameron Diaz

Kate Hudson

If you are Natural, you'll tick at least 3 of these statements:

  • You love jeans, cargo pants and slacks
  • You dislike tight, constricting clothes
  • You get ready to go out in 30 minutes or less
  • Feeling comfortable is your top priority
  • You visit the hairdresser's when you must

What to wear to look stylishly Natural:

Style in an entertaining way

Hello beautiful woman,

Welcome back to doitwithyourstyle. Today we are going to see one realm that very few have ever seen through the lenses of style: the animal realm.  Nature made animals already styled up! :0)

All of them are beautiful animals, aren’t they? What animal would you choose to represent you in terms of looks?  No matter which one, wouldn’t it be boring for us, human beings, to wear the same outfit every single day? :0)

We, human beings, are so fortunate! We have plenty of choices when it comes to our looks. As a woman, I’m so grateful I can wear make-up, dye my hair, walk on high heels and choose from a colorful fan of clothes and accessories to make myself pretty.

“But Aline, what are you really trying to say?”, I hear you thinking aloud. Well, the point is: we don’t have to copy somebody else’s style nor try to have a look that is not compatible with our genetics and/or personality.  Ok, you can be inspired by somebody’s style but the key point in choosing a style for yourself is to feel good with it like your second skin. It should express your personality, preferences and even individual philosophy.

People usually associate style with good taste, elegance, creativity and sophistication. I particularly see style simply as a means of expressing ourselves, so one doesn’t need to wear luxurious or “the last trend” items to have style. You just have to be YOU and learn to use the right colors and combinations of clothes and accessories to your advantage, which means concealing your not so positive features and enhancing your best physical assets.

I’ve done some research and come up with a nice test online to help you find out your new style.

Hope you have fun with it. Meanwhile, don’t forget: No matter what you do, do it with style. YOUR style. Stay tuned.

Your Style Coach,

Aline Lermer

Action!

Hello beautiful woman,

Here we are again on doitwithyourstyle. If you have already started working on your new style, congratulations! If not yet, don’t worry. Aline Lermer is on your side and has good tips for you today.

As I shared with you in my last post, you may also have read a lot of self-help books, LOA (Law of Attraction) theories, hundreds of fitness and fashion articles, bla, bla, bla. All of that stuff is good, I mean it, but we both know that it is easy said than done. Well, when we need a boost in our self-confidence, we dream of the perfect looks and this is just not happening, something as important as having a vivid healthy self-image may be missing: your interaction, better said, your action. Put your hands under your chin, look to the side, and ask yourself: “Am I willing to move at least one single finger to get what I want? Or I prefer hiding myself inside an oyster, blaming the evil couple Mr. Insecurity & Ms. Laziness for not shining as the beautiful pearl I really am”?

Let’s then go back to that simple formula: 1. Be, 2. Do, 3. Have. There must be a firm line between these 3 steps. For example, if step 3, i.e., what you want to have is too hard to be achieved, steps 1 and 2 won’t help much. “Why in Heaven would I move my valuable ass...et for that? This is impossible anyway”.  If step 1, your self-image, is positive and step 3, your goal, is achievable and very appealing but you are not consistent with step 2, taking action, then it won’t help much either. Scientists are probably still working on a way to get things done only by thinking but so far, my dear, it can only work when you move your "valuable asset on the back", and we know that this part is the hardest one... so go find the strongest and most convincing reason to look fabulous! Otherwise, tsc, tsc, it’s just not going to happen…

“Hmmm, can I get it an easier way”?, I hear you saying. Of course, my dearest. That’s what styles coaches are for.  ;0)

Next time we’re going a little deeper in the “style realms”. Until there, keep in mind: No matter what you do, do it with style. YOUR style. Stay tuned.

Your Style Coach,

Aline Lermer

Best ally for a brand new YOU

Hello goddess,

It’s great to have you here again on doitwithyourstyle . So, what goddess do you most identify yourself with? If you haven’t read my Greek goddesses series yet,  you shouldn’t miss it but now the time is up to tell you all about the best ally to your brand new YOU.

I can tell you this by my own experience. I tried everything, EVERYTHING when I wanted to lose weight, develop self-discipline, change my looks and posture, find balance, have a healthier lifestyle, etc, etc. If I could get a refund for all the money I spent in self-help books, women magazines, fitness magazines, creams, gyms, believe me: I would be able to go right now on a 5-star tour anywhere I wanted! Did they help me? Well, somehow, but the results were far below my expectations.

What went wrong then? I didn’t have the best ally to a brand new “me” which is a vivid healthy self-image. Yes, it’s all about your self-image. Oh, you’re not satisfied with yourself? First of all, accept yourself the way you are right now. Period. Then action! If there’s something you need to invest right now before I de-clutter your wardrobe, go shopping with you and show off my knowledge (lol) is in a vivid healthy self-image.

My dearest, it doesn’t matter how interested you are in making a change nor how many valuable tips, lessons or positive testimonies you hear about changing. You’ve got to have a strong and appealing reason for a change because if the motivation is not BURNING inside of you, you can’t see yourself already BEING the brand new you, you are not jumping out of joy just by imagining your achieved goal, you don’t see a diva, a goddess when you look at your mirror, hmmm, then you are surely taking the longest and steepest (hillside) way…

People usually think: first I need to have this, to do that and then be who I want to be. No! Backwards: first you need to BE, and then DO what it takes to HAVE the result you want. The formula is:

1. Be
2. Do
3. Have

Ok, ok, there is a catch here… That’s why you thought I was beating around the bush all the time, huh?  “Where are the Style Coaching tips”? Oh, don’t be impatient. (lol) Before setting the steps towards your goal, you need first to work on you from the inside out.

I’m not a psychotherapist. I’m a coach so I don’t want you to occupy yourself with “ghosts”. We want results, don’t we? So go find yourself the most vivid image and the strongest and most appealing reason you can find for a new YOU and stick to it with your life! Oh, you are not satisfied with your YOU now, you want to change but you are not sure yet what style you want to develop? That’s ok. Then re-create yourself! Yeah, inspire yourself with beautiful images, good music, nice movies, and whatever makes you feel good and ready to strut! See your NEW YOU, feel it with all your senses, enjoy it, feed it with your feelings and imagination, BE your new YOU! And the rest will follow.

This is your homework for next time and always remember: No matter what you do, do it with style. YOUR style. Stay tuned.

A bit about Greek goddesses. Part V: Persephone/Proserpina

Hello wonderful woman,

Here we are again on doitwithyourstyle. Last time I introduced you to the goddess Artemis. Now you’re going to be introduced to Persephone, a fragile “mammy’s girl”.

Persephone in Greek Mythology and Proserpina in Roman Mythology, the maiden queen of the Underworld

It’s all about you, a “take care of me” woman, very romantic and sensitive. Apply Persephone’s power by showing your girlish side, exploring colors, wearing young-look clothes, very feminine accessories, shoes and purses, long hair and romantic makeup.

With these items you can embody the power of Persephone:

Scarf with pompons
Blouse with ruffles and frills
Capri pants
A-Line skirts with pleats
Princess dress
Mary Jane shoes
Mules
Furry bags
Chandelier style earrings

Delicate  romantic necklace
Definitely curls!
Long hair with hairband
Make up with pastel tones

This is the end of the Greek goddesses-series. So, my dear, what goddess do you identifyyourself with? No matter which one, release the goddess inside of you! Be woman, be beautiful, be divine!  Feel it. Listen to Habanera, Bizet’s opera Carmen or Vogue, Madonna, put your chin up, the hands on your hips, feel the rhythm, breathe deeply and say to yourself  “I love myself”, and you will be on the fast lane to your new look and style!

Next time I’ll tell you all about the best ally in achieving “the looks”. Meanwhile, remember: No matter what you do, do it with style. YOUR style. Stay tuned.

Here we are again on doitwithyourstyle. Last time I introduced you to my favorite goddess, Athena. Now it’s time to be introduced to Artemis, a goddess who loved a good chase.

It’s all about you, self-sufficient and hard-working woman, a nature lover. You can apply Artemis’s power by wearing comfortable clothes, sometimes even a bit boyish, long-strapped handbags, flat shoes, makeup with earth-tones, nature-related accessories and a hairstyle easy to keep.

With these items you can embody the power of Artemis:

Cotton scarves
Tunica with large belt
Cargo pants
A-skirt with animal print
Beautiful long flowered dress
Flat sandals with nature elements
Flat leather shoes
Messenger bag
Peacock feather earrings
